Permanent Residence (PR) Card
The permanent resident card is a wallet-sized card issued to permanent residents of Canada. It replaces the paper record of landing for travel purposes.
As of June 28, 2002, Citizenship and Immigration Canada started issuing the card to new permanent residents as part of their admission as landed immigrants.
Individuals who became permanent residents prior to that date have to apply for the card. The card is proof of your status in Canada and must be presented at the border when seeking to re-enter Canada on a commercial carrier.
Permanent residents of Canada who intend to travel abroad are encouraged to apply for the card. Permanent residents may also apply and obtain a travel document from a Canadian visa post abroad.
